‘“The best bartender in the world cannot mix a suitable drink if the Bitters are inferior,” reads a 1908 copy of the Angostura Bitters Drink Guide, a small pamphlet equally diminutive in size as the paper wrapped bottle containing the aforementioned liquor. While Old Fashioned’s and Negroni’s are fast becoming the drinks of choice for bearded gentlefolk and stylish ladies across the land, why exactly did we start mixing these bitter tasting liquids into our drinks?’
